Supporting Your Well-being

We are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student succeeds. We understand that your mental health is a vital part of your academic journey. This is why Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Ellsworth Community College (ECC) provide essential accommodations and comprehensive support for students with disabilities, including those with mental health considerations, to remove barriers and help you achieve your goals.

Mental Health: Counseling & Referral Services

We believe in fostering a supportive community where you can address concerns, navigate challenges, and enhance your mental well-being. Both MCC and ECC offer access to confidential counseling and referral services and resources designed to help you thrive both academically and personally.

The Student Assistance Program at MCC is a free, on-campus, confidential counseling service specifically for MCC students. Two part-time counselors are available by appointment or on a drop-in basis as available. When you need to talk, a counselor will listen and work with you to establish goals.

Students are invited to discuss a variety of concerns, including:

  • Relational conflicts
  • Time or organizational difficulties
  • Mood disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Substance abuse
  • Stress-related psychological problems
  • Impulse control

This program is designed for short-term counseling, typically one to four sessions, to help you identify a problem, set goals, and work toward resolutions. If longer-term services are needed, counselors will discuss all available options for referrals.
