Welcome International Students!
At Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD), we're excited to welcome students from all corners of the globe. Both Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Ellsworth Community College (ECC) offer a supportive and diverse environment. You'll find a welcoming community ready to help you thrive, experience American culture, and connect with peers from around the world.
We understand you'll have questions, and we're here to guide you every step of the way!
Applying to IVCCD is a clear process designed to help you prepare for your studies at MCC or ECC. Here's what you need to do:
- Complete Your International Application
- Submit Your High School/GED/HSET Transcript Provide an official high school transcript or equivalent. If it's not in English, please ensure it's officially translated.
- Submit Previous College Transcripts (If Applicable) If you've attended college before, you must provide official transcripts from each institution. These need to be sent directly from the previous college(s) to the Admissions Office of your chosen IVCCD campus. Transcripts in any language other than English must be translated.
- Submit Proof of English Proficiency A TOEFL score or a similar English proficiency test is required for admission. Please
send your official proof of English proficiency to the Admissions Office of your chosen
campus. We accept various English proficiency exams; if yours isn't listed on our
accepted tests, please contact the Admissions Office before submitting.
- If you do not meet the minimum score, you may take a placement exam upon arrival at MCC to determine your English proficiency level.
- Provide Placement Assessment Scores (If Available) If you have taken the ACT, SAT, COMPASS, or ACCUPLACER within the last 5 years, please send your official scores to the Admissions Office. These scores are used for course placement, not for admission decisions. If you haven't taken these assessments, you will take ACCUPLACER math and writing placement tests upon arrival to determine your course placement.
- Submit Your Health Certificate Provide a health certificate confirming you have no communicable diseases. You must also include proof of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations from a doctor.
- Submit Your Financial Statement Complete our Financial Statement Form (available in English and Spanish). This form,
along with an official statement from your bank on bank stationery, verifies your
ability to cover all educational and living expenses for one year.
- The required amount varies slightly by campus; please refer to the specific financial statement form for the exact minimum U.S. funds required for one year of college.
- Submit Proof of Health Insurance Health insurance is mandatory for all international students.
- Athletes will have health insurance added to their bill and administered through the athletic department.
- Non-athletes must choose an insurance company. Many students have purchased a plan through International Student Insurance (MCC) (ECC). Non-athletes are required to provide their own proof of insurance.
- Let Us Know Your Housing Plans Planning to live on campus? Once all other documents have been submitted, you will be emailed a link to the housing application. You will receive another email from donotreply@admissions.iavalley.edu with the log-in information needed to do the housing application. If you will not be living in student housing, provide a letter from a sponsor/host family outlining living arrangements OR a letter from you indicating you will be renting an apartment or staying with a friend/family member off-campus.
- Share Your Passport (ECC Only) For Ellsworth Community College, you will need to provide a photo of your passport to Megan Richtsmeier.
- Transferring from Another U.S. College? (ECC Only) If you are transferring from another institution in the United States to ECC, you'll need to complete and submit the ECC International School Transfer Form. Contact Megan Richtsmeier for a copy of this form.
- Program Specific Requirements: Certain degree programs (e.g., Medical Assisting and Nursing at ECC) may have additional admission requirements. Please check with the Admissions Office of your chosen college.
- SEVIS Fee: There is a mandatory SEVIS fee which must be paid after you receive your I-20 and before you go for a student visa interview. Learn more about it here: Paying the I-901 SEVIS Fee | Study in the States
- Send Materials Together: For efficient processing and cost savings, please send all required materials together
at one time. No action will be taken on your application until all items have been
received. Use our International Admission Requirements Checklist (available in English
and Spanish) to ensure you have everything!
- For MCC, scanned documents may be sent to mccinternational@iavalley.edu.
- For ECC, scanned documents may be sent to Megan Richtsmeier.
