Below are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you need additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we’re here to help.
How do I qualify for a concurrent enrollment class?
Start by meeting with your high school counselor to confirm you meet MCC or ECC enrollment requirements, as well as the specific criteria for the course you’re interested in. This may include age requirements, prerequisite courses, and minimum placement exam scores.
What does “concurrent credit” mean?
Concurrent credit allows you to earn both high school and college credit at the same time. Your final grade will be recorded on both your high school transcript and your official college record.
What is a prerequisite, and how do I know if I need one?
A prerequisite is a requirement you must complete before enrolling in a particular course or program. For example, Composition I must be completed before taking Composition II. Your high school counselor or Iowa Valley staff can help you determine if your chosen course has prerequisites.
How will a college class affect my athletic or activity eligibility?
MCC & ECC courses taken through concurrent enrollment count toward both high school and college credit. If you do not pass a course, you may become ineligible for athletics and extracurricular activities for a period of time. Speak with your high school counselor for details about the “no pass, no play” policy.
Can poor performance affect my future financial aid eligibility?
Yes, it can. Federal financial aid guidelines require students to maintain satisfactory academic progress. This includes your cumulative GPA, the percentage of credits you successfully complete, and the overall length of your academic program.
Do Career Academies include certifications?
Some Career Academies offer opportunities to earn industry-recognized certifications upon successful completion. Available credentials vary by program and are explained in more detail during student orientation.
What should I do when my course is finished?
At the end of the semester, return any textbooks provided by your high school. Final grades can be accessed through PawPass and will also be shared with your high school counselor.
You can also use PawPass to view your college transcript and send it to a transfer college or university.
