Our History

Iowa Valley Community College District was established in 1966 as one of Iowa’s 15 community college districts, created through legislation to expand access to postsecondary education across the state. The District brought together institutions with deep roots in their communities: Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, founded in 1890; Marshalltown Community College, founded in 1927; and what would become Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions, established alongside the District in 1966. Iowa Valley Grinnell was added in 1993 to extend the District’s reach into Poweshiek County.

Today, Iowa Valley continues to serve the region by expanding access to education, supporting workforce development, and partnering with local industries and communities to prepare students for success.
