IVCCD Learns of Workforce Training Initiatives
MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors learned about workforce development initiatives spearheaded by Iowa Valley Continuing Education. Initiatives include the MAKE It Initiative, Introduction to Energy Basics, and the Marshalltown Learning Academy partnership.
Lori Wildman spoke regarding the Intro to Energy Basics, developed in partnership with Alliant Energy. Students that successfully completed the program had the opportunity to apply for a summer 2021 paid internship with Alliant Energy in the Marshalltown and Burlington zones. The program served student from 32 high schools, spanning from eastern to central Iowa. The program was a talent development tool, allowing students to get a firsthand look at career paths in the energy sector.
Board Approves Early Retirement
The Board approved applications for early retirement for Dee Lynk, Medial Assisting faculty for 15 years; Cindy Schulte, Director of Governmental Affairs for 18 years; Nancy Ellis, Financial Aid Associate for 22 years; Dan Key, Senior Academic Advising Specialist for 23 years; Troy Muilenburg, Wellness Coordinator and Men’s Basketball Coach at Ellsworth for 23 years; and Valerie Forrest, Accounting Clerk for 30 years. The Board thanks each for their distinguished service.
Board Approves Firewall Update
The Board approved work between IVCCD and Heartland Business Systems for the purchase of Palo Alto Firewall equipment and related software and services. The equipment will replace the District’s current firewalls which have reached end-of-life.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for February 9, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
