IVCCD Board Report – February 2025

The Iowa Valley Community College Board of Directors approved a $1.12 million bid for significant science lab renovations at Marshalltown Community College (MCC) during their regular monthly meeting held via Zoom on Wednesday. This investment will create state-of-the-art learning environments for MCC students, fostering hands-on learning and research opportunities.

The project will revitalize rooms 507, 509, and 511, along with adjacent support spaces, in the main MCC building. Construction, slated to begin in May and conclude in November, will encompass mechanical, plumbing, and electrical system upgrades, as well as the removal of a small, outdated greenhouse.

In further support of student success, the Board authorized a design contract with Shive Hattery for new student housing on the MCC campus. This initiative will provide valuable hands-on experience for students in the Construction Trades program, who will contribute to the construction of the housing pods. Licensed professionals will handle the electrical and plumbing work. Shive Hattery will also lead the design efforts for new Utility Tech facilities at MCC.

Ellsworth Community College (ECC) will also see improvements, with the Board awarding a contract to Latitude Signage + Design to update the exterior illuminated sign at the ECC Hamilton Campus entrance. This project will replace the illuminated graphics and LED board, enhancing the campus’s visibility and wayfinding.

The Board also took the following actions:

  • Student Course Materials: A new three-year agreement with Akademos will provide physical and digital course materials for the Iowa Valley Community College District. This partnership offers students a convenient and cost-effective option for accessing required course materials through a flat-fee model.
  • Academic Calendars: The Board approved the academic calendar for the 2026-27 academic year, providing students and faculty with ample time for planning.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. on March 12, 2025, in Marshalltown, and will be accessible via Zoom. The community is welcome to attend.
