A Bright Future for Iowa Valley Students

President-Anne-Howsare-Boyens

Dr. Anne Howsare Boyens, President of Iowa Valley Community College District

As the new academic year kicks off, I am filled with optimism and excitement for what lies ahead at the Iowa Valley Community College District, which includes Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Ellsworth Community College (ECC). Our unwavering commitment to student success remains our guiding star. Every student, regardless of their background or abilities, deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and we are dedicated to providing the support and resources necessary to make that happen.

At both MCC and ECC, we pride ourselves on offering individualized attention. Our faculty and staff are passionate about creating a learning environment where students feel valued and supported. Whether you’re a recent high school graduate or a seasoned professional looking to upskill, we have programs and services tailored to your unique needs and goals.

We are building upon our success in Esports by expanding this exciting program to ECC. MCC has already established itself as a leader in this field, producing nationally competitive teams. Esports offers students a unique opportunity to develop teamwork, leadership, and competitive skills while connecting with peers who share similar interests.

We are also proud to offer concurrent enrollment opportunities to high school students in our area. By partnering with local schools, we provide college-level courses at no cost to students. This program allows students to get a head start on their college education, earn college credits, and potentially save on tuition costs. We believe this is an invaluable opportunity that sets students up for success.

Beyond academics and extracurricular activities, we are committed to fostering a vibrant campus community. We offer a wide range of clubs, organizations, athletic teams, and cultural events to help students connect with their peers and create lasting memories.

We understand that today’s students face unprecedented challenges, including mental health concerns. MCC and ECC both provide the support and resources students need to thrive. We offer a variety of services to help students manage stress, build resilience, and achieve their academic goals.

I am thrilled to welcome Matt Schmit as our new Provost at MCC. His leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to elevate the MCC campus. Additionally, we are fortunate to have Mary Anne Nickle return to Iowa Valley as Interim Academic Dean at MCC. Her extensive experience will be a tremendous asset as we conduct a search for a permanent leader in this role.

As we embark on this new academic year, I am confident that Iowa Valley will continue to be a leader in providing accessible, high-quality education that prepares students for success. I am honored to serve as your president and look forward to working together to create a brighter future for our students and our community.
