IVCCD Board Report – November 2024

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors learned of plans to update the science facilities on the Marshalltown Community College (MCC) campus. They set the date for a public hearing on the plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for December 11, 2024, at 4:00 pm.

The Board also approved plans for the MCC dam repairs. MCC received a quote for tree and stump removal on both banks. The trees removed will be chipped and wood chips piled on site. The dam will be repaired (holes filled in and granular bentonite applied where necessary to prevent seepage). The banks will be smoothed, and site left in a seedable condition at completion of work. The pond will be closed until spring of 2025.

The Board also approved a quote to remove to remove and replace bleachers in the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium with Excel Seat Module Bleachers. The design will include seven permanent ADA notches with rails and self-storing handrails. Dittmer Gymnasium hosts the ECC volleyball, basketball, and wrestling teams and will be able to seat 570 spectators upon completion.

The Board also approved two jobs training agreements through Business and Community Solutions (BCS). The first is a 260F training agreement with ProTrade, LLC in LeGrand, Iowa. They intend to use training funds for Miner Technician Training, Energy Training, and cryptocurrency technology training and regulation. The second training agreement is with Manatt’s, Inc. for leadership development training with their frontline managers.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. on December 11, 2024 in Marshalltown, and will be available via Zoom.
