IVCCD Board Report – October 11 Meeting

IVCCD Board Received Bond Project Update

MARSHALLTOWN – During her last board meeting on Wednesday, Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) President Dr. Kristie Fisher presented an update on the $32 million general obligation bond projects. Dr. Fisher spoke about each project and focused on the estimated and final totals. She noted that many of the projects came in at or under budget, without dipping into the contingency funds. The contingency funds have been used to complete several additional projects on the Ellsworth and Marshalltown campuses.

In 2019, the voters approved a Bond Referendum, providing funds to the Iowa Valley for much-needed projects. The funds were leveraged to improve the safety, security, and sustainability of the college communities. The projects that received bond dollars impacted the student experience, specifically living spaces, learning spaces, safety and security, technology, and infrastructure.

The Board approved the employment contract for the incoming President, Dr. Anne Howsare Boyens. Dr. Howsare Boyens will assume the role of President on November 1, 2023. Her most recent position was the Provost position at the DMACC Urban Campus.

MCC to Update Science Labs

The Board approved a contract for OPN Architects, Inc. to update the design of the existing science labs at the Marshalltown Community College campus. OPN hopes to finalize the design specs over the winter months and make updates to the science labs over the summer months in 2024.

Last Dollar Scholar Programs Announced

Iowa Valley is able to add two additional programs to the list of programs that qualify for the Last Dollar Scholarship. Beginning in 2024-25, students studying Conservation Technology and Construction will qualify for LDS funding. The Last Dollar Scholarship is a career training program for Iowa residents who are planning to study in high-demand career areas. If a student qualifies, they will earn a grant that covers every last dollar of their tuition. For a full list of qualifications, check the ECC or MCC website.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for November 8, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Ellsworth Community College and will be available via Zoom.
