IVCCD Board Looks for Bids for Thompson Hall Renovation
IOWA FALLS – The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors held a public hearing regarding the Thompson Hall project on the Ellsworth Community College campus. The renovation will not be an extensive renovation; rather it will aim to address mechanical, plumbing, electrical fixes, and remodel the existing restrooms. The renovation will add a few amenities to the residence hall, including adding study and cooking areas and improving accessibility. The Board has posted a public notice to bidders and will open bids on May 12, 2022.
Board Approved Applications for Graduation
The Board approved the graduation application lists for the 2022 spring and summer graduations for both Ellsworth Community College and Marshalltown Community College. Graduation will be held on May 13, 2022.
Board Approved Plans to Add Esports Academic Program
The Board approved plans for Marshalltown Community College to add an Esports Program Management Associate of Applied Science Degree Program. The program is the first of its kind in the state of Iowa and will prepare students for the industry around Esports management, including careers in color or play-by-play announcing, Event Management, and Marketing. With the Board’s approval, MCC will petition the state to offer this as an AAS degree program.
Board Approved Contract with Area School Districts
The Board approved the concurrent enrollment contracts between IVCCD and nine area high schools: Denver, Grinnell – Newburg, Marshalltown, Meskwaki Settlement, and South Tama school districts and also approved contracts with BCLUW, Eldora-New Providence, Iowa Falls – Alden, Marshalltown school districts to provide summer courses for college credit. The summer courses will be on a Healthcare track and feature three classes: Nutrition, Medical Terminology, and Human Growth and Development.
Board Approved Manatt’s Training
The Board approved a 260F agreement between Alliant and Iowa Valley Continuing Education to provide CPR, wind, and CDL training. Continuing Education has a longstanding training partnership with Alliant Energy, and is developing into the preferred training partner of the energy provider.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for May 11, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
