IVCCD Board Report – March 9
The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors reviewed modifications to the District’s Strategic Agenda. Dr. Lisa Breja, Institutional Researcher & HLC Accreditation Liaison Officer, made note of several adjustments, including the lengthened timeline for completion. The Strategic Agenda is a 5-year plan for District improvement, which was lengthened to 6 years (2020-2026) due to the focus the District gave to the COVID-19 response.
Board Learned of Summer Credit Programs
The Board approved the contracts between IVCCD and two area high schools, East Marshalltown Community School District and Montezuma Community School District, to provide summer courses for college credit. The courses will be on a Healthcare track, and feature three classes: Nutrition, Medical Terminology, and Human Growth and Development.
Bond Renovation Update
The Board approved the completion of the Gunsmithing and Entry Improvements project in Grinnell. The project experienced few change orders throughout the project, which resulted in overall cost savings from the initial budgeted estimate. These cost savings will be added to the contingency budgets for the remaining projects at both Marshalltown Community College and Ellsworth Community College.
The Board also scheduled a public hearing on the plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for the Thompson Hall Renovation project on the Ellsworth campus.
Board Approved Manatt’s Training
The Board approved a 260F agreement between Manatt’s and Iowa Valley Continuing Education to provide OSHA10 and leadership development training. Continuing Education has a longstanding training partnership with Manatt’s, often providing both executive training and courses for the workforce. IVCE also provides Commercial Driver’s License training for many of its drivers.
In other actions, the Board also approved the plan to have Critical Response Group provide collaborative response graphic mapping for the Marshalltown campus. The group has begun mapping schools and other large facilities in Marshall County to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of public safety responses to critical incidents.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for April 13, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. and will be held via Zoom.
